Five Things To Remember On Aug. 5

1. Pope Francis' bluntness has people talking again. This time, Catholic News Service reports "Pope Francis denounced consumerism as a poison that threatens true happiness, which comes from membership in the church." The Pope said, "But this experience must face the daily vanity, the poison of emptiness that insinuates itself into our society based on profit and having (things), that deludes young people with consumerism," he said.

2. A lawyer, a Franciscan health care executive, and a diocesan leader and social worker received the 2013 People of Life Award for lifetime commitment to the pro-life movement during an August 4 ceremony at the annual Diocesan Pro-Life Leadership Conference held this year in Boston.

3. The USCCB and the Catholic Legal Immigration Network have set July 7-July 10, 2014, as the dates for the next National Migration Conference.

4. Did you miss some of our photos from Rio during World Youth Day. You can check those out on USCCB's Facebook page and get a sense for just how big of a gathering it really was.

5. God loves you.
