Five Things To Remember On May 15

1. Cardinal Seán O’Malley, OFM Cap., chairman of the Committee on Pro-Life Activities of the USCCB, called for reflection, greater respect for human life and healing in the wake of the May 13 convictions of Dr. Kermit Gosnell of Philadelphia.
“Dr. Gosnell’s trial brought much-needed attention to the tragedy of abortion,” said Cardinal O’Malley, of Boston. “His murder convictions of newly delivered infants have caused many people to reexamine their positions on abortion.”

2. Cardinal O'Malley also commented the May 15 news that researchers in Oregon have succeeded in producing cloned human embryos and obtained their embryonic stem cells. Cardinal O'Malley said, "Creating new human lives in the laboratory solely to destroy them is an abuse denounced even by many who do not share the Catholic Church's convictions on human life."

3. It's a day of life in the Catholic Church. Earlier, Pope Francis tweeted, "It is God who gives life. Let us respect and love human life, especially vulnerable life in a mother’s womb."

4. The "Francis bump" is real, even if the Vatican isn't a big fan of the term.
