Five Things To Remember On May 16

1. Yesterday, we published a blog about the anniversary of three different social teaching encyclicals and closed it with the idea that Pope Francis was likely to share his voice soon. We didn't know it would it be the next day, but Pope Francis spoke of the "cult of money" and the need for ethical financial reform this morning and it's drawing major attention.

2. Archbishop William E. Lori of Baltimore, chairman of the USCCB's committee on Religious Liberty, is speaking directly to audiences in this video talking about the upcoming Fortnight for Freedom.

3. Catholics are being encouraged to join the Apostleship of the Sea for a special Mass in Washington, in observance of the National Day of Prayer and Remembrance for Mariners and People of the Sea.

4. Archbishop Thomas Wenski of the Archdiocese of Miami went to Haiti earlier this month to take part in the groundbreaking of a new cathedral parish in the Diocese of Jacmel. That and other projects are helped by collections from the U.S. after the earthquake in Haiti.

5. God loves you.
