Five Things To Remember On Jan. 15

1. Catholics can observe the 41st anniversary of the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion in the United States by participating in nine days of prayer, penance and pilgrimage by attending local events and by joining a nationwide novena via email, text, app and other formats, said the chairman of the Committee on Pro-Life Activities of the USCCB. Cardinal Seán O’Malley of Boston said the over 55 million abortions since the decision reflect “with heartbreaking magnitude” what Pope Francis means by a “throwaway culture.”

2. National Catholic Schools Week 2014 will be observed in dioceses around the country Jan. 26- Feb. 1. This year’s theme, “Catholic Schools: Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service,” focuses on the principles of a Catholic education.

3. This Catholic News Service photo caught a few human moment of Pope Francis. Read more about it.

4. Pope Francis has named Msgr. Stephen Berg, 62, a priest of the Diocese of Fort Worth, Texas, and diocesan administrator of that diocese, as bishop of Pueblo, Colorado. He succeeds Bishop Fernando Isern, who resigned last June for health reasons.

5. God loves you.
